This was done with the version2 update. The main performance gain would be increasing the default chunk size - however because of limitations in tapir we can't raise the current default by any more orders of magnitude (current is 4096 + header overhead, v.s. max legnth of 8192 - crypto overhead). As such there are no additional major performance gains to be made here without compromising extensibility of file sharing protocol.
