Feasible Replacement for Email? #35

I would love to see Cwtch replace PGP email / Matrix, namely for asynchronous direct messages.

Does the Cwtch team envision this as being within scope?

Currently, the user story for asynchronous direct messages is:

  1. Set up a server (either on a VPS with Docker, or on a spare Android device that can run continuously)
  2. Create a new group with the Server Key Bundle, intended for DMs with one user
  3. Message the intended recipient (when you are both online) and send an invitation to join the new group
  4. Once the recipient accepts the invite, use the group for asynchronous direct messages

The main friction point I see with this user story is step 3 - finding a time when both users will be online if they don't know each other IRL requires that the communication is bootstrapped with a second channel (like using PGP email or Matrix to set a time to send the group invite).

I just wanted to inquire about Cwtch plans to address this use case, and whether server features are planned in relation to it.

Thanks!
